Hullbridge Sports FC are pleased to announce that Darren Manning will be taking up the position as the first team manager after Rob Hodgson stepped down on Saturday. Darren worked closely with Rob Hodgson and Aaron Hunwicks in his time as Reserve Team Manager, before moving on to the position of Assistant Manager at Grays.
Rob and Aaron did some fantastic work at Hullbridge since taking over in 2015 and the club would like to thank them for everything they have achieved and they have given Darren a good platform to work from. Darren will take charge of things at Lower Road as soon as possible as the first team have some difficult fixtures in November starting with Ilford FC (A), Great Wakering Rovers FC (A), Waltham Forest FC (A), Southend Manor FC (A) and Great Wakering Rover FC (GBMT) (A).
Darren will have his work cut out with Hullbridge sitting second from bottom of the Essex Senior League, but he will have gained good experience working at a higher level with Grays Athletic and he will be able to use this to support the current crop of players. With Aaron Hunwicks already leaving the club, Darren will also need to try and work on keeping ex-manager Rob Hodgson in situ as he will be a massive loss it he leaves.
Hullbridge Chairman Trevor Lammas said: “whilst being extremely disappointed with the decision made by Rob and Aaron , I fully appreciate their reasoning behind it , and go on record stating that they have done an absolute sterling job in managing the side whilst still being forced to play 90 minutes most weeks due to a poor run of extended squad injuries. The Club and myself personally would be very happy if both were to stay on in a playing capacity, but sadly that decision is out of our hands. I am also extremely pleased to confirm the appointment of Darren Manning as first team manager and look forward to working with him on reviewing our structure and development plans for taking this club forward.’
